Beginning March 1, all staff will be prompted to authenticate using the Microsoft multifactor authentication when connecting to UWM’s GlobalProtect virtual private network (VPN). This change helps to keep campus members’ UWM accounts secure while working remotely and reduce the possibility of cybercrimes being committed using compromised accounts.
Using a VPN while working remotely is imperative to keeping your device, and the work you do on it, safe. Enabling the GlobalProtect VPN encrypts the traffic you generate while using UWM-owned services. It’s especially important to use the VPN when connected to unprotected WiFi sources (coffee shops, doctor’s offices, etc.), and they can even be downloaded to your mobile device. UWM offers all campus members free downloads of GlobalProtect at this webpage, and it’s strongly recommended that those who work remotely enable the VPN.
