Libraries sign agreement with Royal Society of Chemistry

UWM Libraries have entered into a transformative agreement with the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) that will allow UWM authors to publish unlimited open access articles in RSC’s high-impact portfolio of journals, including RSC hybrid journals, Gold OA journals and RSC Advances.

Transformative, or “read and publish,” agreements attempt to shift a library’s payment to a publisher toward open access publishing and away from expensive subscriptions.

UWM authors, who have published 73 articles in RSC journals since 2018, will pay no processing charges and will retain copyright, among other of the agreement’s advantages, beginning Jan. 1, 2024.

“This is a great benefit for UWM researchers and allows them to publish in excellent journals with the enhanced impact of open access publishing,” says UWM College of Letters and Science Dean Scott Gronert. “It is a win for them and scientists everywhere.”

The agreement will cover three years, from 2024 through 2026.

UWM students, faculty and staff will also continue to have full access to over 50 RSC journals. See the list of RSC journals.
