We also encourage people to take these precautions to reduce the chances being the victim of a robbery or assault.

  • Whenever possible, walk in a group or with a friend.
  • Don’t wear headphones while walking, day or night, and be aware of the noises around you.
  • Don’t walk while using your phone, which is a distraction that can cause you to be an easy target.
  • Staff, students and faculty are urged to download the Rave Guardian App to receive UWM Emergency Alerts and access other personal safety features on the app. Students and employees are automatically signed up for safety alerts via their UWM emails. In addition, they may opt in to receive text safety alerts via cellphone. Students can also add contact information for their parents, so they receive emergency alerts, too.
  • Consider taking safety training provided by the UWM Police.
  • If you are the victim of a robbery, offer unconditional surrender. Valuables are replaceable, you are not!
