All UWM students are encouraged to be vigilant and exercise basic precautions to prevent and reduce the risk of crime and theft.
- Always be aware of your surroundings and lock your vehicle doors when you are in the car and away from it.
- Do not idle your vehicle to warm it up during cold weather.
- Have your keys, phone, etc. readily accessible as you leave your vehicle or home.
- Take all your valuables — wallets, phones, personal identification, keys, power cords — with you when leaving your vehicle.
- Enter the UWM Police phone numbers into your phone:
- Non-emergency Number: 414-229-4627
- Emergency Number: 414-229-9911
- Report any suspicious activity to UWM PD. If you encounter a break-in or theft in progress, dial 911 immediately and do not approach.
- Avoid leaving your mail or packages on your front porch. Have the Post Office hold your mail until you return from winter break, and take advantage of package pick-up lockers like Amazon offers.
- Keep your porch light and a light inside your home on while you’re gone.
- Tell a trusted neighbor you’ll be gone so they can keep an eyeon your home for suspicious activity.
- Use campus resources such as BOSS, shuttles and the RAVE Guardian App.
- Include YOUR cellphone in your PAWS account so you are automatically registered to receive campus safety text alerts.
