How to protect your vehicle from theft

The UWM Police Department offers several tips to help protect your vehicle from thieves:

  • Criminals tend to take the path of least resistance. If they must work too hard to steal your stuff, they will probably move on to something else.
  • Always lock your car.
  • Do not park your vehicle in an unsecured garage. If possible, park in a well-lighted, high traffic location.
  • Invest in a good anti-theft alarm or a steering wheel locking device. If you own a Kia or Hyundai, you can stop by the UWM Police Department or your local police agency to get one for free.
  • Never leave your car unattended if it is running, and never leave any valuables inside the vehicle.

If you are the victim of a car break-in, approach the vehicle carefully, make sure the thieves have left the area and call police. Remember, your personal property isn’t worth your life.

Always report and suspicious activity or crimes to the police.
