The first freshwater colloquium of the fall semester — Great Lakes Legacy Act: Milwaukee Estuary Area of Concern Cleanup and Management of Contaminated Sediment — will be Tuesday, Sept. 26, at 1 p.m. It’s open to all students, faculty and staff, alumni and the public.

The seminar will feature a panel of water professionals from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Environmental Protection Agency and Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage DistrictSpeakers will will talk about the plan to use funding provided by the Great Lakes Legacy Act to clean up and manage contaminated sediments in the Milwaukee Estuary Area of Concern, or AOC.

Continued exposure to the toxic chemicals found in the AOC sediment threatens human, fish and wildlife health. The project will help improve water quality, economic and recreational opportunities, and the eventual delisting of the Milwaukee Estuary AOC.
