The FAFSA — Free Application for Federal Student Aid — is now open for the 2023-24 academic year, and UWM is asking faculty and staff to help spread the word. It’s highly recommended that students complete the FAFSA now because some programs have limited funds. Any students who will be attending UWM in Fall 2023 and/or Spring 2024 should complete the 2023-24 FAFSA.
In addition, if faculty and staff are meeting with students who are enrolled now and haven’t applied for 2022-23 financial aid, it’s not too late. Let them know to be sure to select the 2022-23 FAFSA.
Here are some additional tips to share with students:
- Never pay to submit a financial aid application. Be sure to go to FAFSA.gov to apply.
- Select the 2023-24 FAFSA; the school code for UWM is 003896.
- Use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool (DRT) to transfer your 2021 federal tax information quickly and accurately. If you are unable to use the IRS DRT, make sure to use your 2021 federal tax information.
