Dean gets dunked at Party on the Plaza

As dean of UWM’s College of Engineering & Applied Science, Brett Peters sometimes has to put on a suit and tie, sit on the hot seat and face questions hurled at him.

On Thursday, he put on a suit and a tie and sat on a different seat — that of a dunk tank — while students hurled softballs in his direction.

Dean takes the plunge — 10 times

At Party on the Plaza, the college’s annual welcome back event for students, Peters got dunked into a 500-gallon tub full of water 10 times.

At the party, students mingled and enjoyed free food and music. A dunking contest included a grand prize to the student organization that dunked the most people. A student organization got one point per dunk, but two points for dunking the dean.

Tau Beta Pi, an engineering honors society, won, scoring a pizza party with 10 pizzas of their choice.

“These kinds of activities show new students that administrators are willing to connect with their students directly,” said senior computer science major Mitchell Kossoris, “even if that means getting a little wet while doing it.”
