Dance professor to receive career recognition award

UWM dance professor Simone Ferro will be honored July 10 by the Wisconsin Dance Council.

Dance professor Simone Ferro joined UWM in 2001.

Ferro, former chair of the UWM dance department at the Peck School of the Arts, will receive a career recognition award at the council’s 50th anniversary celebration in Middleton.

A native of São Paulo, Brazil, Ferro joined UWM in 2001 and served as director of the Master of Fine Arts program for several years.

The event will include a performance by UWM dance students, along with performances by other students and professional dancers.

Other honorees at the event include Jennifer Janus Hiltbrand, director of the Kehl School of Dance in the Madison area; Tori Rogoski-Rutta, founder of the Dance Education Center in Stevens Point; and Tania Tandias, a Madison-based choreographer, performer and teacher of flamenco and Spanish dance.
