Activities sought for Family Weekend 2022

This year Family Weekend is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 8, and planners are hoping to significantly increase the activities and offerings for families this year, spurred by feedback from families who are requesting an opportunity to engage more with campus. Family Weekend organizers are issuing a challenge to all campus units to host a presentation, showcase, lecture, workshop, tour, fundraiser, program, activity or event this fall. No idea too big or small, as the baseline goal is to show how alive and welcoming our campus can be.

For example, service units like restaurant ops, financial aid, panther card office and parking could offer walk-in or open hours for at least a few hours. We’d love to work with you on idea development, the planning process, and help in any way we can.

Planners are hoping to align Family Weekend with the 2030 Action plan by showcasing all the great work the university is doing. Family Weekend is an excellent recruitment and retention opportunity for schools and colleges to engage not only with UWM students, but their support networks as well. We typically host about 1,500 attendees at Family Weekend each year, and are always looking to grow engagement.

The goals of Family Weekend program offerings include:

  • Highlight how a UWM education is distinctive
  • Showcase how radically welcoming UWM is for all students – embracing diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Promote ways we engage our non-traditional and adult learners
  • Spread the word about our incredible research opportunities and the groundbreaking research and entrepreneurship being done here
  • Offer insight into our collaborations with the greater Milwaukee community
  • Have fun and create memories

If your area would like to participate, email ambc@uwm.edu with the point of contact for your area by May 15, 2022.
