The award, one of several 2016 Preservation Awards being given by the Ozaukee Washington Land Trust, is given to an educator, writer or media source that demonstrates excellence in educating or sharing information related to land preservation and the environment.

O’Reilly, an environmental engineer and hydrologist, said the award is recognition for work UWM has done with the land trust as part of the Conservation and Environmental Science capstone class “Practicum in Natural Resources Management.”

“It’s good to see that people feel we make a difference,” he said.

The trust cited O’Reilly and UWM for leading the way in developing programs that give college students real world field conservation experiences.

The award will be given Aug. 21 at the trust’s Fly In Feast at the Forest Beach Migratory Preserve in Port Washington.
