Joshua Prince-Ramus awarded Architecture’s Marcus Prize

Joshua-Prince-RamusInternationally known architect Joshua Prince-Ramus has been awarded the sixth Marcus Prize.

The$100,000 prize, offered every other year, honors architects world-wide who are “on a trajectory to greatness,” according to the announcement of the award. The Milwaukee-based Marcus Corporation Foundation supports the prize, which UWM’s School of Architecture and Urban Planning administers.

As part of the award, Prince-Ramus will lead a design studio at UWM during the spring 2016 academic semester in collaboration with Matt Jarosz, UWM adjunct associate professor of architecture. The studio will deal with specific Milwaukee-based architecture challenges. Prince-Ramus will also be invited to participate in public workshops and lectures while in Milwaukee.

“To have a prize of this magnitude and have it focused on Milwaukee is wonderful, and it brings us international attention,” said School of Architecture and Urban Planning dean Robert Greenstreet. “We are grateful to the Marcus family for having the vision and foresight to establish it.

“Joshua Prince-Ramus is our first American architect selected for this prize. We anticipate he is going to provide a positive perspective on the future of design for our students.”
