Kareem El-Badry of the California Institute of Technology will explore the dark side of our galaxy at a talk at UWM on Sept. 10, presented by the Leonard E. Parker Center for Gravitation, Cosmology & Astrophysics. The event starts with a reception at 6:30 p.m. and the program at 7, in the Lubar Entrepreneurship Center.
Black holes are among the universe’s more fascinating objects, yet most are completely invisible. So how do astronomers find them? El-Badry, an assistant professor of astronomy at Caltech and a 2025 MacArthur Fellow, will share how the Gaia mission is revolutionizing our view of the Milky Way by measuring the motions of more than a billion stars with extraordinary precision.
