As UW-Milwaukee Panthers come together during 414 for UWM Giving Days, a dedicated group of supporters are helping raise awareness of the university’s largest annual fundraising push.
A year ago, a record-breaking 2,028 donors – including alumni, employees, students, parents and friends – gave more than $1.3 million in support of student success, groundbreaking research and community-engagement programs. And a dedicated group of 414 for UWM Giving Days advocates proved a big reason for that success.
Advocates help lead the push by spreading the word through social media and other messaging channels. Some also sponsor challenges to inspire others to give and build support for the causes that matter most to them.
Becoming a 414 for UWM Giving Days advocate is quick and easy, and anyone can sign up to be one by following the instructions in the online toolkit. We asked a few of them why they chose to be an advocate, and here’s what they shared.
Alberto Maldonado
Assistant vice chancellor for connection and achievement

“I am a 414 advocate because I have witnessed firsthand the resilience and brilliance of our students — and how a little support can make a life-changing difference. Giving Days is an opportunity for all of us to invest in their success and in the future of our community.”
Kay Eilers
Associate vice chancellor, Division of Strategic Enrollment Management and Student Success

“I’m a 414 for UWM Giving Days Advocate because every day, I see just how much UWM means to so many people. It’s where students take their first steps toward their careers and where they engage with our amazing faculty to perform research with the potential to change the world. So being an advocate is just one small way I can help pave their paths.”
Matt Mahoney
Financial advisor, Diel-Mahoney Private Wealth Management Group of Wells Fargo Advisors

“I continue to be a 414 for UWM Giving Days Advocate because it’s an easy and quick way to bolster support for our Panther Swim & Dive Team, while giving me a chance to give back and show my Panther Pride.”
