Campus Sustainability Week is October 13-17

The Office of Sustainability invites students, staff and faculty to take part in Campus Sustainability Week, with events happening daily from Monday, Oct. 13, to Friday, Oct. 17.

Climate Action Workshop: Oct. 13

  • Location: Architecture & Urban Planning Commons (First Floor)
  • Student-led workshop from 1-2 p.m.
  • Drop-in climate action pledges from 2-4 p.m.

Learn about climate actions we can make as individuals and on organizational scales. Create your own climate action pledge, and learn ways to create a ripple effect of change on campus and in your community.

Hydroponics Harvest & Make Your Own Microgreens: Oct. 14

  • Location: Union Station, near the Food Center & Pantry
  • Stop by between 9:30 and 11:30 a.m.

Help plant the hydroponics system with new herbs and make your own “mini” microgreens kit to grow your own healthy and nutritious microgreens at home.

Green Up Volunteering: Oct. 14

  • Location: Lapham Hall Pollinator Gardens (Lapham Hall entrance facing Maryland Avenue)

This event is outdoors and includes manual labor. Attendees must sign a volunteer waiver. Work gloves are provided – you are welcome to bring your own.

Focus on Energy Challenge: Oct. 15

  • Location: Union Atrium
  • Stop by between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Connect with the UWM Off Campus Resource Center and Office of Sustainability teams and learn about energy conservation strategies to save money on your bills while reducing energy use.

Surplus Pop-Up Shop: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Rethink:  Oct. 16

  • Location: UWM Student Union Concourse
  • Stop by anytime between 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

This event will feature UWM’s signature composting program, information about recycling at UWM and the popular Surplus Pop-Up Shop. UWM students, faculty, staff and the public can purchase surplus items (used furniture, artwork, supplies and more) for affordable prices. If you are looking to purchase items at the the Surplus Pop-Up Shop, please bring cash (all sales are cash only). Most items range between $1 and $10. Surplus supports the reuse of campus goods and helps keep 6,000+ items out of the landfill each year.

Annual Campus Sustainability Awards: Oct. 17

Join us as we recognize Sustainability Superstar awardees including students, faculty, staff and community members who embody sustainability values and help create a greener UWM.
