Seminar series focuses on preparing future faculty and professionals

The UWM Graduate School organizes professional development seminars and discussions to help graduate students get acquainted with the expectations associated with graduate studies, move successfully through degree milestones, understand the “big picture” of higher education and academic life, and plan for careers after degree completion.

PFFP Session 1- Fall 2024

  • Managing Unstructured Time to Support Scholarship

This session will be a discussion among two faculty members, one in the sciences and one in the humanities, about approaches and insights for managing unstructured time to support scholarship and creative work. We’ll discuss the challenges and opportunities of unstructured time, intentionality in prioritizing time for scholarship/creative work, strategies used by the speakers, and insights they have gained that will help graduate students cultivate skills and strategies to support their own professional development.

  • Navigating Conflict Well in Graduate School

This session will introduce conflict transformation as a framework for engaging conflict constructively. You’ll learn concrete strategies to help you assess conflict dynamics, prepare for difficult conversations and de-escalate tensions in the moment.
