Updated suicide prevention training offered for faculty and staff

UWM faculty and staff are invited to participate in an updated suicide prevention training program, developed by the Student Health and Wellness Center and the Chancellor’s Advisory Committee on Mental Health.

The new hybrid training structure offers two parts:

  • UW-System’s Recognize, Respond, Refer: Suicide Prevention Training for Faculty and Staff, which is a 45-minute online session that builds awareness, knowledge and skills about mental health and suicide prevention.
  • Coming early next spring, Part 2 is a 50-minute in-person discussion session that focuses on skill-based practice, supporting higher-risk groups, and campus-specific resource and referral information.

To begin the Part 1 online training, access it at this webpage.

More information about how to support students in distress is now available at the Responding to Students in Distress (Red Folder Initiative) website. This site offers a guide to help UWM faculty, staff and other community members recognize, respond effectively to and refer distressed students to appropriate resources.
