Update: The “Hack for Health” event has been postponed, and more information will provided when it becomes available.
UWM faculty are encouraged to mentor students for this year’s multi-campus Hack for Health — a hackathon partnership of the Northwestern Mutual Data Science Institute, Froedtert and the Medical College of Wisconsin, the Clinical and Translational Science Institute of Southeast Wisconsin and the Milwaukee Bucks.
During the hackathon, students will collaborate in teams to address the challenge: “The Impact of Social Determinants on Life Expectancy in Milwaukee.” Please share the registration link with students and encourage them to participate.
Over the course of the hackathon, students will have access to medical and data science experts who will serve as mentors. NMDSI is seeking volunteers to fill these roles. Mentors oversee students as they work in teams, be available to offer advice, guidance, general expertise and answer questions
Time commitment expectations:
- Meet with your team ahead of the hackathon (in-person or virtually)
- Attend the kick-off event (Nov. 10, 9:30 a.m. at Northwestern Mutual)
- Be available by email or phone Nov. 10-15 as students are working
- Attend the judging session (Nov. 15, at 2 p.m. at Northwestern Mutual)
Note that there is a specific ticket option for mentors. We ask that mentors register no later than Monday, Nov. 6.
