Panther Prowl 5K Run/Walk gears up for Oct. 14

Runners participate in the Panther Prowl.

Now is the time to sign up for the 19th Annual Panther Prowl 5K Run/Walk, hosted by the UWM Alumni Association on Saturday, Oct.14. Kids and dogs are welcome to join in the fun, and all proceeds benefit the Panther Pathways Scholarship, which keeps students on the path to graduation.

You pick the pace; go for your top speed or take a leisurely stroll through UWM’s campus and picturesque Lake Park. Or participate virtually from wherever you like. Last year, teams prowled in 26 states, from California to Massachusetts.

This is a competitive event for individuals and teams. Medals will be awarded to the fastest runners in age categories from under age 10 to over 85, and trophies go to the largest team as well as the team that raises the most money for student scholarships.

Last year, The Running Experiments (representing the Office of Undergraduate Research) won the Largest Team Award with 42 participants, while the Asphalt Kickers (representing the Helen Bader School of Social Welfare) received the Stan Stojkovic Team Fundraising Award for raising $6,298 for scholarships.

Join an existing team or create a new one. If you come up with a new team name, take a lesson from some of these spirited groups as you think of your perfect moniker: #1 Run-Ons (English Department), Fund Racers (Advancement), Infomaniacs (School of Information Studies), Planners on the Prowl (Urban Planning) and We Run This Town (Public Administration), to name a few.

After the race, enjoy free snacks and swag from our sponsors. Special thanks to Liberty Mutual Insurance, Educators Credit Union, Direct Supply and A. O. Smith Corp. for their support of this year’s Prowl.

The cost for adults is $35 through Sept. 30 ($40 from Oct. 1-14), $15 for students and $15 for Kids’ and Toddlers’ Dash, which is sponsored by Abacus Marketing. Registration ends Oct. 14.
