2019 edition of undergrad literary magazine Furrow to be released

Furrow, UWM’s undergraduate literary journal, will mark the release of its 2019 edition with a party from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, at the Art Bar on 722 E. Burleigh St.

The editors and staff of Furrow will host the party along with readings from several UWM students who are published in this year’s issue. In addition to the readings, visitors will also be able to enjoy food and drinks with raffle drawings throughout the evening.

Copies of this year’s release will also be available for purchase at the event.

Furrow has been showcasing undergraduate writing and art from across the country since 2000 and publishes a full-color print issue every May. The publication also gives UWM undergraduate students the opportunity to train in editing, publishing, publication design, publicity, fundraising and business practices.

This year, Furrow received over 1,000 submissions from more than 700 undergraduate students from 45 states. Student editors from UWM selected work from 34 student writers and artists to be published in this year’s edition. Published works come from students at UWM plus 27 other colleges and universities including Carnegie Mellon, Brown, Michigan State, Auburn, University of Tennessee, Macalaster College and the Institute of American Indian Arts.

In addition to being available at the release party, copies of Furrow will be made available for purchase at the Furrow’s Esty store following the May 8 event.
