I am Ava, a current third year student studying Journalism and Spanish. I record, edit, and write content for the podcast and socials. In my free time, you can find me reading in the sunshine, grabbing a coffee with friends, exploring a new city, hiking, or loving on my three younger siblings.

I’ve been able to practice my Spanish in on the US-Mexico border, in the Dominican Republic, and here in Milwaukee. I’ve always been interested in traveling and how different cultures celebrate their history and traditions through art, language, and food.

After volunteering to go on my hometown’s Public Library radio, I found myself enthusiastic about podcasting. I loved the equipment, the conversation, and the process. I started a podcast of my own called Keeping It Pure, an interview series dedicated to dialogue with depth, three years ago. I was drawn to Panther Planet because of the opportunity to improve my editing, recording, writing, and communication skills. I’m enthusiastic to work alongside my teammates and the opportunity to create content while preparing for a potential career. I plan to use my journalism skills of seeking objective truth, sifting through large working documents of information, and purposeful, concise writing wherever I find myself. I believe that this project can aid me in that discovery.

I want to bring our own research, passion and exploration about our world to listeners wherever they find themselves: at home, in a dorm, or on the go.

Hello!!!! My name is Cristopher Santos, and I am a sophomore at UWM (University of Wisconsin Milwaukee) majoring in communications. As a Caribbean boy from the beautiful island of Puerto Rico I love music and dancing as well as food and drink. Swimming is also very important for me as is reading a good book next to the ocean. Leaving my home country, I discovered that I have an affinity for cultures and all that they encompass. From their foods, music, philosophy, language, and history. All things that make them who they are. Things that allow you to investigate their stories.

So, it should not come as a surprise that I am extremely excited to be part of Panter Planet and get to indulge my curiosity and learn and discuss anything and everything about the world. Get to have fun conversations with interesting and well-rounded people

I hope that by working on this wonderful project, the panther planet podcast, I will get to improve my media, management, and research skills as well as anything else that comes my way while exploring a world of topics with our listeners.

My name is Pader Xiong and I am a Junior at UW-Milwaukee majoring in Film. I am a first-generation Hmong American who enjoys dancing, spending time with family and friends, and learning other cultures and languages.

In high school I volunteered and studied abroad in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic for a month. Just recently this summer I had the amazing opportunity to study abroad in Rome, Italy. My favorite part of my study abroad in Rome was never being bored of my surroundings. Beyond the tourist sights, there was always something to see whether it was the architecture, people, or even the floors beneath my feet.

I am super excited to be a part of the Panther Planet Podcast team for this upcoming year. I am hoping to improve my production and management skills while also discussing and sharing local and global topics with my peers.

My name is Ellen Benson. I am a senior at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. My major is International Studies: International Economics and Development, and I am minoring in Sociology. One of my favorite parts of my college experience was studying abroad in Sevilla, Spain in the fall of 2021. I had a fun time exploring Spanish culture, as well as traveling to fun places such as Ireland, Amsterdam, Lisbon, and Morocco!

Originally, I am from the Twin Cities area in Minnesota. Some of my hobbies include weightlifting, traveling, being outdoors, and spending time with my friends and family. My biggest flex for the gym rats out there is that I can bench 135 lbs. and deadlift 260 lbs. conventional. Another fun fact about me is that my dad is a scuba diving instructor, so I have had several opportunities to travel with my family and scuba dive; no, I haven’t found Nemo, but I have seen some cool creatures such as sharks, rays, and sea turtles!

I love being a part of the Panther Planet Podcast team because it is such a memorable experience seeing this project take off, plus I am really enjoying diving deeper into these topics with the other team members.

Hi, I’m Jenny Davis. I am currently a second semester graduate student. I’m studying German to English Translation in the Translation and Interpreting Studies department.

Translation isn’t just about reading a text and spitting out a word-for-word equivalent. It’s also about connecting cultures to each other to produce a text that truly suits the readers’ needs. That’s why I’m excited to be a part of this podcast; it’s an exciting opportunity to learn and share about many different facets of culture around the world.

I am eager to be part of the Panther Planet team! I mostly help the hosts with the behind-the-scenes work like planning, editing, etc., but I’ll appear in at least one episode. It’s been a joy to work with our team and to learn about such interesting and varied topics; I hope you enjoy listening to the podcast as much as we’ve enjoyed making it.

Hi, my name is Alyssa Fehrman. I am double majoring in Italian and Global Management with a minor Economics. I studied aboard in Rome in Spring 2022. I also did an internship at Romeing in Spring of 2022 and another in La Spezia at Tarros in the summer of 2022. I am a senior who is graduating in May 2023!

I care about teaching others how to be respectful of cultures and love to learn about them myself. I think it is important to be kind and considerate of other people and their lifestyles. Instead of thinking of things as being right or wrong, just learning about how everyone is different. My ultimate career goal is to work in international education to help other people experience new cultures.

I am happy to be a part of this podcast team with all these amazing people. We are creating the Panther Planet Podcast from scratch, so it is a learning experience. I hope you enjoy our topics and learn something new like we all have from this experience.
