Associate Director - Research Compliance, Melissa Spadanuda has served this role since 2015. She oversees the research compliance programs for Animal Care, Biological Safety, Human Subjects, and Radiation Safety. These research compliance programs ensure the safety, rights and welfare of animals and human subjects participating in research, as well as the faculty, staff and students working with regulated biological and radioactive materials on campus. She joined the University Safety and Assurances Department in 2007 in the IRB/Human Research Protection program and she has been the IRB Manager since 2012. Prior to UWM, Melissa has worked in a variety of research organizations including the Medical College of Wisconsin, Aurora HealthCare and CHR Hansen. Melissa has a Bachelor’s Degree in Microbiology and a Master’s in Business Administration.
