Ilya Avdeev, associate professor, mechanical engineering, was awarded $189,000 from the Martin Defense Group for a one-year project titled Battery Modeling and Digital Twin Support.
Avdeev is director of innovation and Kellner Entrepreneurship Fellow at the Lubar Entrepreneurship Center.
Deyang Qu, Johnson Controls Endowed Professor in Energy Storage, is the co-PI on this grant.
Martin Defense Group helps customers, including government agencies, take a concept to product and develops cutting-edge solutions within defense and maritime industries. The Office of Naval Research was the primary sponsor of the grant.
The project focuses on designing an approach to managing energy storage system of a battery-powered experimental naval vessel. This work builds on Avdeev’s past and current collaborative research projects with Johnson Controls / Power Solutions and UWM’s Connected Systems Institute.
