School of Education students may apply for the SOE Emergency Grant to help cover educational and non-educational expenses. All SOE students are eligible, regardless of program status. Examples of circumstances for which a student may apply include but are not limited to:

  • Unexpected life expenses
  • Medical Emergencies
  • Transportation
  • Books
  • Child Care
  • Late Fees
  • Housing
  • Tuition Assistance
  • Holds on Accounts
  • And other basic needs

Eligibility Criteria

Eligible students may apply for an emergency grant once per academic year. Applications will be accepted at any point in the year. Funds are awarded on a first come, first served basis and range up to $1000. Students must be registered for courses in the current term to be eligible. Because of limited resources, not every eligible student will be awarded.

Application

Visit the UWM Panther Scholarship Portal to complete the School of Education Emergency Grant Application. Students must submit supporting documentation (e.g., tuition, bills, lease, etc.) for items which they are seeking funding. Documentation is not needed for food and personal care item expenses. Processing may take up to a week.

Review Process

Staff review the student’s application, supporting documentation, and PAWS record to help determine eligibility. Staff may also review the student’s financial aid status to ensure that the awarding of a grant will not require financial aid funds to be returned.

Eligible applicants will be contacted via email from the UWM Panther Scholarship Portal with instructions on how to accept the funding. In most cases, students who are awarded will receive the funds within one week of accepting the offer in the Portal. The funds will disburse through the student’s PAWS account and be administered by the SOE scholarship coordinator. Grant recipients may be asked to engage in follow-up conversations with appropriate staff to help address ongoing needs.
