Areas of Expertise

Dr. Zhao's research interests are in the areas of data mining and healthcare informatics. His current research focuses on social media mining, and mobile healthcare. He teaches courses in object-oriented programming and database management.

Professional Activities

Dr. Zhao has published in such journals as MIS Quarterly, Journal of Management Information Systems, Journal of the AIS, Communications of the ACM, ACM Transactions on Management Information Systems, IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering, and IEEE Transactions of Systems, Man, and Cybernetics. He is the recipient of several research awards in the Lubar School of Business and the UWM Graduate School. He has co-chaired several conferences, including the Workshop on Information Technologies and Systems,  INFORMS Workshop on Data Mining and Health Informatics and China Summer Workshop on Information Management. He currently serves as an associate editor for Information Systems Research, a senior editor for Decision Support Systems, and an associate editor for the Journal of Business Analytics, and has served as an associate editor for MIS Quarterly.
