Area of Expertise

Dr. Soofi is internationally acclaimed for his theoretical and applied research. His research interests are in information-theoretic approaches for probability modeling, Bayesian and computational statistics, and their applications in management research and decision problems. He has published widely in the leading journals of several disciplines such as statistics, econometrics, engineering, including several management sciences fields (operations research/applied probability, marketing, strategic management, and management of information systems). His research provides insights about information concepts and measures, and shows their usefulness in business, economic, and other applications. His methodologies are used in a wide range of applications by researchers and practitioners. His articles are cited by researchers in various fields, including statistics, business, economics, engineering, law, natural and biomedical sciences.

Professional Activities

Dr. Soofi has provided statistical consulting to industrial, commercial, and service organizations, including a national law firm for a multibillion dollar litigation. He is an Associate Editor of Econometric Reviews (2012-present), which is a major econometrics journal and served as an Associate Editor of Journal of the American Statistical Association (1990-2005), which is the premier journal in statistics. He served as the Chair of the Leonard J. Savage Thesis Award Committee (1992-2002), which is the most prestigious award for Bayesian statistics and econometrics, as the Chair of the Industrial Statistics Section of the International Society for Bayesian Analysis (ISBA), and as the Vice President of the International Association for Statistical Computing (1999-2001).

Dr. Soofi’s research and professional accomplishments are recognized by such honors as being named Fellow of the American Statistical Association, Elected Member of International Statistical Institute, Fellow of the Info-Metrics Institute of the American University, and several research awards from the Lubar College of Business.
