Areas of Expertise

Dr. Singh specializes in organizational behavior and human resource management. She teaches and conducts research on a variety of topics in these areas. In particular, her research focuses on understanding career management issues related to career choices, work-life relationships, and retention and turnover decisions of women and people of color.

Professional Activities

Along with her colleague, Dr. Nadya Fouad, Distinguished Professor in Educational Psychology at UWM, Dr. Singh has been awarded two large National Science Foundation (NSF) grants to investigate engineers’ persistence and turnover decisions, which has culminated in their groundbreaking report, “Stemming the Tide.” and a recent journal article. Dr. Singh’s research has appeared in leading journals in management and vocational behavior. She has also authored and co-authored several book chapters.

Dr. Singh teaches courses in human resources management at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Since 2002, she has served as the Faculty Advisor to the award winning UWM student chapter of Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM). In recognition of her time, service, and leadership, she was twice named the UWM Outstanding Advisor of the Year by the Student Organization Advising and Resources (SOAR) and Center for Student Involvement (CIE) offices. Dr. Singh has also received several teaching awards, including Lubar School’s Business Advisory Council Award for Teaching Excellence.

At the national level, Dr. Singh served on the Executive Board for the Careers Division of the National Academy of Management from 2011-2014. She is currently serving as the Interim Chancellor’s Designee for Campus Climate.

Dr. Singh is a member of the Academy of Management (AOM) and the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and Metro Milwaukee Society for Human Resource Management (MMSHRM).
