Areas of Expertise

Dr. Mandell specializes in federal taxation. His research interests include master limited partnerships, taxation, payout policy, and corporate governance, and his work has been published in Journal of Corporate Finance, Journal of the American Taxation Association, and Journal of Business, Finance, and Accounting.

Aaron teaches income tax accounting at the graduate and undergraduate level. In 2014, he received the Robin & Roger Best Teaching Award from the Charles H. Lundquist College of Business at the University of Oregon, and he received the Business Advisory Council Teaching Excellence Award from the Lubar College of Business in 2020.

Dr. Mandell has six years of public accounting experience, most recently with PwC’s alternative investments tax practice in Chicago. Prior to joining PwC, he worked with Blackman Kallick (now Plante Moran) in Chicago, and Caler, Donten, Levine, P.A. in Palm Beach, Florida.

Professional Activities

Dr. Mandell is a member of the American Accounting Association (AAA) and the American Taxation Association (ATA). He serves on the editorial board of The International Journal of Accounting and has served as a reviewer for publications such as National Tax Journal, Journal of the American Taxation AssociationJournal of Business Finance and AccountingJournal of Business Ethics, and Journal of Risk and Insurance.
