How do I find out who my advisor is?

Your advisor is assigned when you officially enroll in a graduate program. You can find your assigned advisor on the PAWS homepage. If you don’t see an advisor listed, contact the school or college that houses your major. 

How do I obtain my textbooks?
Can I defer my admission?

You can defer your application for up to one year. Submit the Defer Your Admission request (International admits). Domestic admits can reach out to Graduate School

Where can I see what classes are offered in an upcoming semester?

Access the full list of UWM’s courses online using the UWM Schedule of Classes. You will also be able to see which semester each course is offered. 

How can I add an internship for credit?

HOW TO REGISTER:

  1. Submit your Internship for Credit application through HandshakePlease note, responses cannot be saved and completed later. Gather the required information in advance of filling out the application.
    1. Watch this detailed video on how to submit the application as an “experience” in Handshake
    1. In Handshake, click on “Career Center”
    1. Click on “Experiences,”
    1. Then click on “Submit an Experience”
    1. Select the experience template that relates to your academic program.
    1. Fill out the required information.
    1. After submitting the experience, you must attach:
      1. Offer letter
      1. Detailed position description
  2. Tell your site supervisor to expect an e-mail from Handshake requesting their confirmation of the internship. internship. They may need to check their junk folder. A Handshake account is not required.
  3. Monitor the approval progress in Handshake:
    1. Career services will review the submission for approval.
    1. The designated faculty member will then review the approval.
    1. If academic prerequisites are met, your academic advisor will approve and give you permission in PAWS to enroll in the course.
    1. After your advisor notifies you about the permission, you must enroll in the class on your end.
    1. The approval process may take up to 2-3 weeks to complete, so start this process early to complete on time.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS:

  • Include your offer letter with this application.
  • Make sure that the offer letter appears on company letterhead and includes the following:
    • Position title
    • Position responsibilities
    • Start date
    • End date
    • Hours per week
    • Hourly (or internship) wage
  • After the faculty advisor signs the form, you will be added to the Internship course. Upon addition to the course, contact CIE for approval of the CPT request.
I am trying to register for courses, but I have a hold. How do I get rid of it?

If there’s a hold on your PAWS account, click on the details link below the hold title in your holds box. Clicking on the hold on the next page will reveal who entered the hold and how to get in touch with that person or office. You can then take action to correct or remove the hold. You can also contact the right individual/office to rectify the hold. See the Before You Enroll section of our One Stop site for more information. 

Does the university provide laptops to the students during course time?
I want to add, drop, or swap a class but PAWS does not allow me. What do I do?

Check the add/drop calendar to make sure you are within the allowable window to make schedule changes. If the deadline to add or drop has passed, you will need to work with your advisor and instructor for permission. 

I am graduating next semester – what should I do?
