Springdances 2026: We Also Bloom presents world premiere works that explore what it means to grow, persist, and flourish — even in the face of erasure, displacement, and silence. The dances in this program honor the enduring human impulse to take up space, put down roots, and rise. This evening features new works by guest artist Karlies Kelley, and dance faculty Daniel Burkholder, Tiffany Kadani, Dan Schuchart, and Christal Wagner.
This lively ciné-concert will feature film of a joyful, chaotic and colorful celebration of springtime in India, a minimalist take on Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds, and some choreographed funk, with music by jazz great Vijay Iyer, mad scientist Nicole Lizée, and rising star Jlin Patton. The UWM Percussion Area hosts World Percussion Night in the beautiful Jan Serr Studio, featuring special guest Ho Etsu Taiko alongside the UWM Steel PANthers Steel Band and other student ensembles. Audiences will love the upbeat, exciting energy of Japanese Taiko, Brazilian Samba, and West African drumming in addition to traditional and arranged music for Trinidadian steel pans performed by UWM students and faculty with vibrant community ensembles.

Experience Larson's groundbreaking musical that reshaped the landscape of American music theater. Set in New York’s East Village during the 1990s arts and activist movement, RENT follows a community of young artists navigating love, loss, creativity, and the realities of illness and economic hardship. Its blend of rock, pop, and lyrical storytelling continues to connect deeply with audiences.
Composer/singer/songwriter Corey Dargel writes quirky, unclassifiable art songs which explore both the roses and the thorns of relationships; he’s writing a new set of songs for Present Music inspired by conversations with AI— how Artificial Intelligence might (mis)understand what love means. In celebration of Women's History Month, UWM Jazz Night features several compositions by well-known composers Toshiko Akiyoshi and Maria Schneider along with vocal tributes to Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughn.
This concert features two World Premieres. 'Cellist and composer Paul Wiancko of the prestigious Kronos Quartet has written a brand new work for Present Music, and will perform some of his other compositions, including American Haiku, When the Night, and Closed Universe. Pamela Z performs her solo works for voice and an array of electronics, and contributes another World Premiere to the program, Raise, a stirring tribute to the people who raised us, written for 'cellist Nick Photinos (founding member of 8th Blackbird) and three additional cellists, plus voice samples and multi-media. Is the plural of cello "cellos" or "celli"? We say Cello Cello!
