Established to give students a greater voice in campus decision-making processes, representatives from each department in the Peck School of the Arts participate in meetings with the Dean to carry out a student set agenda to improve all aspects of the school. The committee is an important venue for students and administration to work together on equal footing to help shape this exciting environment for learning and research.
Dean’s Advisory Committee members are made up of undergraduate and graduate students solicited from department chairs and faculty. Interested students encouraged to nominate themselves by contacting their department chair.
Differential Tuition
Each year students enrolled in Peck School of the Arts courses contribute a small amount of their credit fees towards differential tuition. The use of differential tuition funds are decided through a transparent process involving the Black & Gold Committee, faculty and staff, as well as annual department student surveys. Surveys are shared internally and results are weighed by the Committee, Dean and Department Chairs to ensure the diverse needs of students are met in order to enhance education experience and satisfaction.
Differential tuition has been extremely important in improving the educational experience of PSOA students through the funding of additional course selections, upgrades to facilities, quality of instruction and purchasing of new equipment. In fact, differential tuition can only be used if the outcome improves access to courses, technology support or the quality of instruction and student services.
Quality & Projects
The proposed differential tuition requests are examined by the Dean and administrative staff to determine whether they can be satisfied without needing differential funding, either by school or department funds, laboratory modernization funds, or extramural funds.
The Committee also enacted a plan back in May of 2007 to ensure a balanced distribution of differential funds by instituting an election process for staffing a PSOA Differential Tuition Review Board. Each PSOA academic department elects two student representatives to serve on this board as well as the Black & Gold Committee.
