Niki Johnson is a Milwaukee-based artist whose practice combines sculpture, collage, and women’s traditional craft to examine democracy, identity, and structures of power affecting our lives today. Drawing from histories of voting rights, reproductive justice, and social justice, her work considers who is represented, who holds power, and how individuals participate in shaping the systems that govern their lives. Her projects often create opportunities for public participation and dialogue, extending these questions beyond the artwork itself. Johnson’s work has been exhibited nationally and is held in public and private collections.

Throughout the fall and spring semesters, the Artists Now! Guest Lecture Series welcomes a diverse group of nationally and internationally recognized artists working across traditional, hybrid and emergent disciplines. Join us to explore and expand boundaries of creative visual practices alongside others with an interest in contemporary visual art.
