Biography

Shane Walsh is a Lecturer in Painting & Drawing and has taught at UWM since 2009. He makes paintings that reference digital and analog forms of mediation (Photoshop, commercial printing) and combines these with the signs and symbols of 20th century abstraction. Walsh aims to create something uncanny in his work by remixing these historical signs while calling attention to the way our experience of abstract painting is determined by a variety of media.

Walsh’s work has been included in both solo and group shows exhibited locally and nationally including, Henry Art Gallery, Seattle, WA; Skidmore Contemporary, Los Angeles, CA; Blindfold Gallery, Seattle, WA; Portrait Society Gallery, Milwaukee, WI; Francine Seders Gallery, Seattle, WA; Transients Gallery, St. Louis, MO; Max Fish, New York, NY; University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, AK; Kohler Art Center, Sheboygan, WI; Cedar Gallery, Milwaukee, WI; Walkers Point Center for the Arts, Milwaukee, WI; Rahr-West Art Museum, Manitowac, WI; Crawl Space Gallery, Seattle, WA; and Milwaukee Art Museum, Milwaukee, WI.
