As a Chicagoland area native, I had a lot of options to choose from when applying to college. In my search, I was introduced to University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee by a family member who was a long-time Milwaukee resident and twice alum of the school. She encouraged me to consider what UWM might have to offer as I thought about my future college experience.
Consider it, I did. In touring the campus, I was impressed by the vast amount that UWM offers within a manageable, compact space. Restaurants, the student Union, the bookstore, the library and class buildings are all within just a few minutes’ walk of one another. Not only did UWM offer a wide variety of classes and my major of choice, but I had quickly fallen in love with the food, arts and culture, and scenery that the surrounding city of Milwaukee itself had to offer. UWM seemed like the natural choice for me – it was far enough from my hometown that I could spread my wings and start a new chapter, but close enough to home to remain connected to family and friends.
Though I did choose to complete my first degree back home in Chicago, I knew that when it came to graduate school, my return to Milwaukee was inevitable. My experience with the faculty and the staff during my first years at UWM encouraged me to return to a community that I knew would be supportive of my goals and provide a bright path toward a future in higher education. My graduate experience more than met my expectations. I was instantly inspired by the passion, dedication and hard work of the students and staff alike. It is my continued pleasure to work at UWM, and to connect with you and encourage you to consider UWM and the city of Milwaukee as your new home. #PantherProud
