September 30, 2016 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm

Free

Tony E. Adams, Professor and Chair, Department of Communication, Media and Theatre, Northeastern Illinois University
“The Purposes and Practices of Autoethnography”

In the last few decades, autoethnography has flourished in qualitative research. Numerous books, professional journals, and academic conferences foreground the method, and discussions about autoethnography have become common in many qualitative research contexts.

The goal of this talk is to identify the use and importance of autoethnography for communication research. Topics will include collecting and analyzing autoethnographic data; doing autoethnographic fieldwork; identifying ethical issues of doing autoethnography; writing autoethnographic reports; and determining criteria for assessing autoethnographic texts.

Ample time will be provided for questions about using autoethnography to study communication topics.
