Make an Appointment

It’s easy to make your own 25 or 50-minute appointment with a tutor! Need more help? Review the lists and the videos below.

Prepare for Your Appointment

  • Plan ahead! Schedule early enough to revise before your due date and to get your preferred date and time.
  • If you cannot keep your appointment, please cancel online as a courtesy to other writers and Writing Center staff. Thank you!
  • For more help, call during open hours: 414-229-4339.
  • Please do not email your paper ahead of time. Before we read along with you, we’ll want to hear about your assignment, your concerns, and your goals. We always work collaboratively in real time. Your voice and your choices are always part of our conversation.
  • Due to our high demand and finite resources, writers are welcome to reserve up to two hours per week. Beyond that, further appointments are available within reason.
  • For pedagogical and practical reasons, writers may schedule no more than one visit per day even if a tutor is available.
  • Need accommodations? Please contact the Accessibility Resource Center here.  Also feel free to contact the Writing Center director Margaret Mika at mmika@uwm.edu.
  • To log into the schedule, you will need your ePantherID and password. Click on any white square (available time), fill out the form, and click ‘create appointment’.

Showing Up

Be On Time

Please be prompt to benefit from all your reserved time and so we can stay on schedule. We wait up to five minutes or 10 minutes (for a 25- or 50-minute appointment, respectively), before marking the session a ‘no show.’

Be in a Good Space

To have the most productive online session, plan to be in a safe, distraction-free place that is conducive to focused, one-on-one conversation. Tutors may suggest rescheduling a session if the writer is unable to effectively communicate (hear, speak, or text) with minimal interruption; they may not conduct a session with a writer who is at a safety risk, e.g., driving.

Don’t be a “No Show”

A ‘no-show’ is when you miss or fail to cancel an appointment in advance. Two ‘no-shows’ will automatically disable your online scheduling privileges for the rest of the semester. You may still walk-in to see a tutor.

Weekend Cancellation Policy

Due to high demand for limited weekend hours, we appreciate your cooperation and understanding of the following:

  • Weekend appointments should be cancelled at least 2 hours before their scheduled start times
  • Writers who ‘no show’ for one weekend appointment are ineligible for further weekend appointments that semester.
