Get Started as an Admitted Student at UWM
Ready to enroll? Review your essential next steps.
  1. Check Your Accounts — Often!

Your Admissions Portal and PAWS account contain important application and enrollment information from the Office of Undergraduate Admissions and from Student Financial Services. You will receive information about your application and admission status in your Admissions Portal. In PAWS, you have a To-Do List, which lists steps you need to take to enroll.

  2. Complete Your Intent to Enroll

Your Intent to Enroll is a one-question survey in your Admissions Portal that lets UWM know if you plan to be a student in the next term. Click on the Intent to Enroll item as it appears in your Admissions Portal and follow the instructions.

The priority deadline to complete your Intent to Enroll for summer/fall is May 1 and Dec. 1 for winter/spring.

  3. Meet With Your Academic Advisor to Confirm Your Path to Graduation

You can contact your academic unit to schedule an appointment with an academic advisor two business days after you’ve been admitted to UWM. Talk with your advising unit about the best time to meet with an advisor to review your transfer credit evaluation, determine your degree requirements, plan your next semester classes and your path to graduation.

You can expect to see your transfer credit evaluation in PAWS two or three weeks after admission under the “My Academics” tab.

  4. Complete Orientation

Go to your UWM Admissions Portal to access your Panther Orientation and Transition Canvas course beginning in March for fall admits and October for spring admits. This course is self-paced, and you can expect to complete the orientation modules within 1-2 hours.

After completing the course, you can enroll in courses, attend an in-person orientation program and conclude your UWM onboarding process with Panther Transition Experience before the semester begins.

Transfer and Adult Student Orientation (TASO) registration opens in March for summer/fall admits and in October for winter/spring admits.

  5. Complete Your University Terms and Conditions Agreement

Every student must electronically sign the University Terms and Conditions Agreement. This appears on your To-Do List in your PAWS account and must be signed before you can enroll in courses.

Visit our Student Financial Services webpage for more information.

  6. Course Placement

Transfer students who don’t have transferable courses in math or English need to complete course placement if they hope to register for courses in those subjects. Course placement can be satisfied by submitting your ACT/SAT scores to UWM or completing our free UWM online placement tests in math and English.

Course placement will open in March for students beginning in summer/fall, and at the time of admission for students starting in winter/spring.

Please note: UWM does not accept the Universities of Wisconsin placement tests.

  7. Enroll in Courses

In April (or November, for spring admits), you’ll receive an enrollment appointment in PAWS identifying the date and time you can begin enrolling in courses in PAWS. You must sign your University Terms and Conditions Agreement before enrolling.

Your enrollment appointment is not an advising appointment. Your enrollment appointment is the date and time PAWS will allow you to hit the enroll button to claim your seat in selected classes.

It is strongly encouraged to make a plan with your academic advisor as early as possible to ensure you are enrolling in appropriate courses that support timely graduation.

  8. Send in Your Final Transcripts

If you’re currently enrolled at another college or university or have just completed your final semester there, be sure to send us your final transcript once grades have been posted.

Transcripts can be sent electronically directly from your current college/university to undergraduateadmissions@uwm.edu or mailed in a sealed envelope from the institution to:

    University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee
    Office of Undergraduate Admissions
    P.O. Box 749
    Milwaukee, WI 53201

  9. Submit Your Photo ID

All UWM students are required to have a photo identification card. Download the Get Mobile App to upload your photo or directly upload a selfie to the Panther Card Office.  Complete this at least 48 hours prior to your orientation program.

  10. Pay Your Tuition and Fees

After you’ve enrolled in classes, tuition and fees will post to your PAWS account. The $250 New Student Fee is assessed once you’ve completed orientation and is nonrefundable. This fee covers the cost of orientation materials, Panther Card and operating costs of Orientation and Panther Transition Experience programs, such as Fall Welcome.

Tuition and fees are due by the first day of classes, though installment plans are available. For more information, visit the Student Financial Services webpage.
