Jean’s Corner
Dear UWM Planetarium friends,
People ask me what I am doing this time of year imagining that it is quiet. It is quiet compared to the spring semester where we had a solar eclipse, visits from 3,488 Milwaukee Public School 3rd graders (67 visits), on top of everything else we do. And yet this is the time of year to start new things or continue big projects.
Some of the highlights: I am preparing for a workshop that I am leading at the International Planetarium Society in Berlin on how to design one’s own professional development. I am traveling with Assistant Director, Victoria Robison to the Grand Portage Band of Lake Superior Chippewa reservation to collaborate with local schools and experts on astronomical themes. I am working with the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning to tweak my Astronomy for Pre-education Students course based on my observations and student feedback. Other things that keep me busy? Feedback to my student staff on Fall designs, rehearsals of planetarium programs, and tidying our physical and digital space with files getting properly placed.
I am feeling a real thrill with all the projects that I am involved in with a great team.
Hope to see you soon under the stars,
Jean
