NASA’s SOFIA: The World’s Largest Moving Observatory

Selected by NASA to be an Airborne Astronomy Ambassador, UWM Planetarium Director Dr. Jean Creighton spent 20 hours in the stratosphere on NASA’s Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA)—the largest moving observatory in the world. Dr. Creighton will share her experiences including the training, the observations of stellar nurseries that are not possible with ground-based telescopes, and even viewing spectacular aurora.
