Dodging Doom: Protecting the Planet from Perilous Asteroids

July 14, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm CDT

This summer, NASA’s new planetary defense mission DART (Double Asteroid Redirection Test) begins its journey towards the near-Earth asteroid, Didymos, where it will attempt to alter the trajectory of the asteroid’s moon. This mission will help us learn how to protect Earth from potentially dangerous future impacts. Join planetarium director, Dr. Jean Creighton, as she explores Earth’s history with asteroids, then take a glimpse into the future of planetary defense against possible threats and learn how you can become a defender of Earth!
We’ll take questions at the end of the program through the chat. Recommended for ages 5 and up.
This LIVE event will take place on YouTube. To RSVP, complete the check out and the YouTube link will be emailed to you along with your receipt. A reminder email with the link will also be emailed to you 1 day before the program. If you don’t receive any emails, please check your spam folder or email us at planetarium@uwm.edu
