Change Management and Equity Leadership

Goals in this category:

Assess the campus climate

Description

To enact change, campus leaders should have a thorough understanding of students’ experiences, drawing on surveys and demographic data.

Baseline

UWM’s Office of Assessment and Research regularly surveys students and produces comprehensive information that serves as a report card on the university. Results from the National Survey of Student Engagement, Senior Satisfaction Survey and other reports help guide policies and decisions designed to create a better student experience.

Goal

UWM will build on existing surveys to create a comprehensive campus climate assessment that informs the university and helps reach Moon Shot for Equity objectives.

Provide leadership and equity skills training

Description

Ensure that campus leaders and others in key roles at UWM have the training needed to address issues of inequality and implement the changes necessary to eliminate equity gaps.

Baseline

Twenty members of our faculty, staff and administrators recently completed training through the University of Southern California’s Race and Equity Center. Also, a UWM work group already is developing curriculum for anti-racism training that will be mandated for all students, faculty and staff.

Goal

We will build on existing initiatives by taking part in EAB’s Leadership Institute, which will empower participants to make the decisions and take the initiative needed to close equity gaps.
