UndocuWeek Presents: BAMBADJAN BAMBA

Thursday, April 18th at 7:00pm – 9:00pm

UWM welcomes Bambadjan Bamba, an actor and immigrant rights activist. He has worked in prominent roles on numerous hit television shows like “The Good Place,” and “Grey’s Anatomy,” and in blockbuster films like “Black Panther,” and “Suicide Squad.” In 2017 Bambadjan publicly disclosed that he was a recipient of the federal Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program (DACA) that is in danger of being terminated. Ever since, Bambadjan has used his inspirational story to change the conversation around immigration appearing on CNN, MSNBC, NPR, TMZ and other news outlets. #standwithBamba is an advocacy campaign founded by Bambadjan to raise awareness about the immigrant experience in the entertainment industry and the hurdles that Black undocumented people face in America’s failing immigration system. Bambadjan is also a contributor in the New York Times bestseller “American Like Me: Reflections on life between cultures” by award winning actress America Ferrera. He is also the recipient of the Courageous Advocate Award from the ACLU and the Courageous Luminary award from NILC (National Immigration Law Center).

The ART BEYOND BORDERS exhibit showcases local undocumented artists’ artwork and gives you a glimpse into the expereinces, successes, and resilience of the undocuemnted community. Artwork by the featured undocumented artists and allies will be available for purchase online. A percentage of sales will go towards a scholarship for undocumented students at UW-Milwaukee.
