The Department of History welcomes Alexis J. Peri, PhD, from Boston University, for the 2nd Annual Jere D. McGaffey Lecture Series. Drawing from her recently published book, The War Within: Diaries from the Siege of Leningrad (Harvard University Press, 2017) – which chronicles the German and Finnish blockade of Leningrad beginning in September 1941 and continuing for 872 days, causing the death of almost a million civilian lives – Professor Peri’s talk will focus on the 125 unpublished diaries written by individual Leningraders about their daily struggles during this harrowing time.

Reception to follow lecture; public is welcome.
