2019 Health Research Symposium

The third annual UWM Health Research Symposium, held on May 3rd in the Union Ballroom, was a great success! Melinda Kavanaugh, PhD, MSW, LCSW, Associate Professor in the Helen Bader School of Social Welfare, shared her important research on the best ways to address the needs of young caregivers who participate in the daily care of their ill family members.

The Symposium also provided a venue for graduate and undergraduate students from UWM health related programs to showcase their research projects in a public setting before their peers, professors, and the community, some for the very first time. There were 51 posters representing the work of 70 students and their faculty/staff mentors.

Ten students were selected to provide oral presentations of their research projects to those in attendance. The students were evaluated by a panel of judges who ranked the presentations based on scientific merit and presentation quality. The students who were among the top three in the judges’ rankings received monetary awards. It gives us great pride to celebrate our undergraduate and graduate scholars and their work.

Congratulations to the winners!
