Li named fellow for STEM leadership program

Congratulations to Jin Li, professor, civil & environmental engineering, who was accepted to 2021-22 class of fellows in the Executive Leadership in Academic Technology, Engineering and Science (ELATES at Drexel) Program, beginning in July.

ELATES prepares female faculty in academic engineering, computer science and other STEM fields for institutional leadership roles. Each year, about 30 women are chosen from more than 20 institutions in the US and Canada for this select leadership development program at Drexel University.

As a fellow, Li will identify and take the lead of a project that contributes to institutional change as she expands her leadership skills.

At UWM, Li’s current research focuses on the development of a smart and connected water/energy microgrid for the U.S. Air Force; she is working in collaboration with faculty members in electrical engineering and computer science and with Eaton Corporation.

With funding from agencies including the National Science Foundation, she has studied the fate and transport of colloids in beach sands and the use of nanomaterials and biotechnologies for water and wastewater treatment.
