Foundry students published research that holds potential applications in biomedical engineering, transportation

Modern Casting Magazine published an article in April written by three CEAS students and Pradeep Rohatgi, UWM distinguished professor, materials science & engineering.

The article – Cast Magnesium Foam for Energy Absorption for Bone Regrowth—summarizes the results of the group’s study on a low-cost foam that could open new markets in biomedical applications and transportation systems.

It was coauthored by Hannah Ullberg, materials science senior, Kaustubh Rane, graduate student, Amir Kordijazi, graduate student, and Rohatgi. Ullberg presented the paper at the American Foundry Society’s Metalcasting Congress in April.

At the same conference, the team presented two other research papers and one student research poster.
