Kristine Lize, PhD

Kristine M. Lize, PhD serves as the Director of the English Education Program. Her teaching experiences include high school English and journalism, working with students as a reading specialist, and serving as a secondary literacy coach overseeing district 6-12 literacy. In addition, Dr. Lize has helped prepare teacher candidates to embed literacy instruction in both the elementary classroom as well as across the disciplines at the secondary level. She has taught graduate level courses for in-service teachers to obtain reading teacher and reading specialist licenses and advised students as they wrote their masters’ theses.

She received her BA in English language and literature from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, her MS in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in reading from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and her PhD in Language and Literacy from Cardinal Stritch University. Her research interests include disciplinary literacy, literacy assessment, and ways to engage students in critical thinking through texts.
