Sara Jozwik, PhD

Sara Jozwik teaches courses in literacy development and curriculum design.

Before coming to UWM, she was an assistant professor in the Department of Special Education at Illinois State University. A former special education teacher in Chicago Public Schools, she earned her master’s degree in teaching English Language Learners from Western Governor’s University and a certificate in bilingual special education from George Washington University. She earned her doctorate in special education from Illinois State.

Sara’s research interests lie at the intersection of bilingual education and special education. She conducts intervention research focused on literacy and biliteracy development for emerging bilingual students with disabilities. In addition, she is interested in teacher preparation, particularly as it relates to equipping educators with skills and competencies to meet needs of culturally and linguistically diverse exceptional learners.
