Jeffrey Hawkins, EdD

Jeffrey M. Hawkins (Ed.D) directs the urban education doctoral program and social studies teacher education program. He has experience teaching at K-20 levels in New York, San Francisco, Memphis, Tulsa, Milwaukee and has supervised pre-service candidates in Belize, Costa Rica, and the United States. Current scholarly interests include critical pedagogy, intersectional and justice perspective using content analysis methodology.

Born and raised in Berkshire County (Massachusetts), the birthplace of W.E.B. DuBois, informed through the lens of James A. Banks Multicultural Education with graduate study in New York and San Francisco during the 1990s, Hawkins has since immersed himself in culturally responsive pedagogy and continued to develop his praxis of critical awareness struggle for liberation.

Dr. Hawkins received his BA in History from the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, MA in Social Studies Education from New York University, and EdD in International and Multicultural Education from the University of San Francisco.
