Simmaron Research located in the UWM chemistry building received NIH funding

We are happy to share that Avik Roy working as CSO at Simmaron Research received a NIH R21 grant in the amount of $450,000.

The purpose of the grant is to study the role of autophagy-related protein ATG13 in the development of post-exertional malaise. Post-exertional malaise is a hallmark symptom of patients with myalgic encephalomyelitis or chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) characterized by severe muscle fatigue, pain, and cognitive impairment after treadmill exercise. Until now, the molecular mechanism of this disease is unclear. Simmaron Research is 501C non-profit company and is currently collaborating with the MIDD to establish a murine research model and develop a therapeutic. Dr. Roy is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at UWM.
